A photo for my falconry/raptor buddies.

I've got no idea who took this shot, but it's part of a series of photos depicting a conflict between a Golden eagle and a red fox that was dining on the frozen deer carcass in the foreground.

If anyone knows who the photographer is, let me know.

This past weekend, I got to go down to Boston to visit my favorite "Big Sister." She thinks this is a miserable shot of the two of us, and I have to admit that it's not exactly stellar, but I figured I'd post it anyway. It'll embarass her more than me.
Sorry Sis....
Had to do it.
I suppose I should have thought of a better way to thank you for our time together...

After spending the entire winter in New Zealand and enjoying wonderful weather, I foolishly believed that I wouldn't see any snow when I returned to Maine.....

Yeah Right !

Though I have to admit that it was beautiful around here.

When snow sticks like this, tree limbs (and indeed entire trees) end up lying in lawns, across power lines, in houses, cars, etc..
There's a lot of clean-up waiting to be done once the snow melts.

Last year at this time, I was rock climbing outside. This year spring in New England has just been one big tease!

Happy Easter !!
Yeah yeah, I'm a couple of days late, but I thought I'd share a photo of some of the Ukrainian eggs that I made. There are about 40 of them in this basket, and they all miraculously made it through the day without being broken by my little cousins.

This clock tower (in "Seymour Square" - Blenheim, New Zealand) chimes every 15 minutes of every day. Read below for more on this...

It's Been A Long Time.......

After a lengthy absence from this blog (of over a month), I've decided to return with a question for you folks to ponder...

I just spent the last 5 months living away from home and not wearing a watch for any of it, which isn't really unusual for me... I made it through the majority of my college career (and working career since then) without wearing one. I hate them. However, even those of us who don't wear watches find ourselves relying on, and regularly referring to the timepieces of others, or to clocks in public places.

I often wonder why it is that I'm so aggressively opposed to watches, and indeed the entire concept of "time."

Maybe it's because I can never fully answer the questions that come to mind when I find myself pondering the ephemeral nature of man, our inevitable decay and our subsequent obsession with the nature of time set against us. Does it really matter what the date is? Does it make a blind bit of difference how old we are? Should it really bother us that our morning commute is 45 minutes instead of 20?

Is time simply a convenient way to measure a concept, and therefore inherently innocent? Should I not let it bother me? I'll be the first to admit that I love keeping track of things and am a relentless record-keeper and "lister," so why is it that "time" bothers me the way it does? I can tell you that it's not because it makes me feel old, because I've harbored this aggression toward the concept since I was a teenager.

In any event, I intend to use this blog for more entertaining and hopefully constructive purposes in the future, but apparently I needed to spout off for a few minutes. Please feel free to add your thoughts below. I'd love to know how others have defined their relationship(s) with a concept that we all live with, and are slaves to.
